Library Board Meeting Dates

The Glenburn Library Board has recently been reactivated by our Glenburn Town Council to help the Town have a discussion about the future of the Glenburn Library.

Over the past few years, do to concerns about available funds, concerns about student safety and control of public access into the school building during school hours, and concerns about which group (Town or School) should carry the responsibility of Public Library staffing/management, the Glenburn School Board decided to move away from a Public Library mission, and has turned the public aspect of The Glenburn Library back to the Town.

The newly reactivated Glenburn Library Board has 9 local resident volunteers:
– Lisa Dyer
– Christina Kahkonen-Watson
– Victoria Grotton
– Constance Poulin
– Julie Monk
– Carline Dube
– Stephen Rich – School Board Representative
– Jacqueline Grant
– Christopher Grotton – Town Council ex-officio

The Glenburn Library Board has been asked by the Council to review aspects of  Public Library options, and to provide  a recommendation or recommendations for Public Library possibilities that our Town might consider.

Options basically range from:
– Close down and stop funding a Public Library
– Fund a modest Public Library that has limited Public hours and modest public funding
– Fund a Public Library that is a participant as a public library in the Maine Library Association

To help shape a dialogue about this overall topic, the Glenburn Library Board meets on the following dates, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM, in the Town Office (broadcasted on our TWC Government Access Programming Channel 7):

July 7, 12
August 4, 18
September 1, 15, 29

Please feel free to attend meetings, watch the process on Channel 7. Help shape the review, dialogue, and Public decision. The Glenburn Library Board has recently been reactivated by our Glenburn Town Council to help the Town have a discussion about the future of the Glenburn Library.
