Welcome to the Glenburn School Special Services Department!
The Glenburn School Department is a K-8 School with approximately 460 students.
Our high school students have school choice and attend schools such as Bangor High
School, Brewer High School, John Bapst High School, Hampden Academy, Hermon
High, and Orono High School. The school choice option provides students and
families with access to many academic programs for children depending upon their
individual interests, educational needs, and post-secondary plans.

There are many specialized staff to serve our students including special education
teachers, educational technicians, and speech pathologists. The district contracts
with other service providers such as Board Certified Behavior Analysts,
occupational therapists, psychologists, social workers, and physical therapists, all of
whom assist and consult on student programs. We enjoy working with parents and
providers to implement appropriate programs to meet individual student needs.
We offer a K-5 resource room, 6-8 resource room and a self-contained program for
our life skills students. We work very closely with parents, community case
managers, and other providers to develop, support, and implement a
comprehensive program to serve your child. We believe in educating students as
close to their nondisabled peers as possible while we address areas of need through
The Director covers all students with special needs when they transition to area
high schools to ensure good coordination of services. The Director will attend all IEP
meetings with parents and is responsible for ensuring special education and related
services are provided through the high school of choice.
Parents who suspect their child may have a disability that may require special
education and related services under the Individuals with Disabilities Act or
reasonable accommodations under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act should
contact the Special Services Department to initiate a referral and schedule a
